Nima Gharti Magar, a standout Wushu athlete from Nepal, has been making significant strides on the global Wushu stage, garnering acclaim both internationally and at home. Originating from a small village in the Rolpa district, Magar embarked on her Wushu journey at the age of 12. Her dedication and talent have seen her represent Nepal in numerous prestigious international competitions, including the World Wushu Championships in Shanghai (2019) and the Asian Wushu Championships in Tashkent (2021).
Magar's remarkable achievements include gold medals at the South Asian Games in both 2016 and 2019. She made her international debut at the 12th South Asian Games, winning a gold medal in a women’s Wushu event. Impressing the judges with her graceful yet powerful movements in the nanquan all-round taulo, she finished on top of the podium with 16.89 points. In the 13th South Asian Games, she again won a gold medal by defeating Bangladeshi player Morjina Akhtar with a score of 18.91, becoming the first Nepali woman to win two gold medals in Wushu.
In 2019, Magar received a year-long sponsorship from the Sirish Foundation, which provided her with essential Wushu gear, nutritional support, a personal coach, and complimentary year-round health check-ups at HAMS Hospital. This sponsorship played a pivotal role in her rigorous preparation for international tournaments, particularly the Asian Wushu Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan (2021).
During the Asian Wushu Championships held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan in 2021, Nima Gharti Magar made history for Nepal by clinching a silver medal in the women's 52 kg weight category. Magar's remarkable performance saw her finishing as the runner-up to the defending champion, Li Yueyao of China. This achievement was particularly significant as it marked the first time a Nepali athlete reached the final and secured a silver medal in an Asian-level Wushu championship.
Magar's success not only highlighted her exceptional skill and dedication but also brought significant attention to Nepali sports on an international platform, inspiring many young athletes in Nepal to pursue excellence in Wushu and other competitive sports.
