Susma Tamang, a Nepali female boxer, has made waves in the world of boxing, particularly in her home country. Born and raised in Naxal, Nepal, she began her boxing journey five years ago at the Naxal Boxing Club. Since then, she's proudly represented Nepal in various international tournaments, including the U-19 World Championship in Poland (2021), the Kings Cup in Thailand, and the World Championship in Turkey (2022). Her notable achievements include a sixth-place finish in the U-19 World Championship and a fourth-place finish in Thailand.
In 2022, Tamang’s talent and potential were recognized by the Sirish Foundation, which sponsored her for a year. The Foundation equipped her with essential boxing gear for her international bouts, a monthly stipend of Rs 15,000, and ensured her nutritional needs were met. They also provided her with a personal physiotherapist and year-round free health check-ups at HAMS hospital. This comprehensive support from the Foundation played a pivotal role in Tamang’s preparation for various international tournaments, including the ASBC Asian U-22 Men and Women Boxing Championships in Bangkok, Thailand in 2023.
In January 2023, Tamang won a silver medal in the ASBC Asian U-22 Men and Women Boxing Championships in Bangkok, Thailand. She lost the women’s 48 kg weight category final 5-0 to defending champion Fozilova Farzona of Uzbekistan. Despite the loss, Tamang made history by becoming the first Nepali to reach the final and secure silver in an Asian-level championship in Nepali boxing history.
